The Silver-Tongued Swindler

While
I was performing at Six Flags Magic Mountain I was known as Ace Star
- The Silver-Tongued Swindler. I did a few card tricks etc. Truth is
that I performed the Three Card Monty thousands of times. The result
was always the same. I won a stolen kiss from a unsuspecting lady.
It was a tough job, but I made the most of it. Out of the hundreds
of times I performed this show, there was a time when a little ol'
lady beat me every time. I couldn't figure out how she knew where
the queen was every time. That was until I noticed that she had been
eating cotton-candy. She had marked my red backed cards with a dab
of candy coated fingers when she first lifted the queen. (on my
practice run)
If you are looking for a steady paycheck as a magician, the
theme parks can be a great place to play. They are hard and
demanding work. You have a rigorous schedule to keep, so slackers
need not apply. My suggestion is to practice, practice, and
practice. Be good with, and to, people and you will succeed. When
you audition for such a job you have to have your act down pat. No
mistakes allowed because there are a hundred other magician's trying
to get the same job. I felt really lucky when I was chosen to be the
magician at "Magic Mountain."
Of
course I did stray from the old gambling routine from time to time and
actually did perform a little magic other than card tricks. But
dressed as a river boat gambler, what is a guy supposed to do? I did a
wonderful poker demonstration back then. It was based on Dai Vernon's
poker demonstration from a book of his called "Early Vernon."
Here I am resorting to a little rope magic.
Maybe
I was roping this girl in. You know what they say, "give a man
enough rope and he'll hang himself." Or maybe I was just thinking
about tying this girl up. I can't really recall. Notice her clenched
fists, maybe she was going to punch me.
