Ace Starry - Conjuring at Conventions

Ace at the Booth - Cards in Hand

As far as I'm concerned one of the best ways for the "above average" magician to make a steady living is by performing at Conventions and Trade Shows. One reason is that so many cities now have a convention center soliciting tradeshows. That means you don't have to travel - the customer comes to you. As with any magic show the pay you receive is pretty much dependant upon how much you're worth. I have found that most companies doing trade shows will usually pay you what you're worth, and in my case usually more (ha! ha! Just kidding!

While performing at a trade show it always helps to have a good-looking group of sales people that work for the company acting as your magicians' assistants. These guys decided that we would all dress like me. (Clever huh?) This was a great group of sales people, in Houston working for a company which was just starting out at the time and is now very successful. Participating actively in their trade organization was a key success factor.

It Slices, Dices, Makes Finger Steaks!

At left I am performing my magic version of the Vega-matic, which slices, dices, etc. Great for making "Finger Steaks," "chopped Liver" and other goodies. A great tool to have, unless you make "miss steaks."

Remember, when performing magic, you are a salesman for the company you represent. You should not only keep the audience smiling, you need to make them to know the company you represent. Always work the company's products and services into your routines.
