Who we're looking for:

We are looking to hire an Associate to join our Communications and Government Relations team. The Associate reports directly to the Senior Vice President, Communications and Government Relations, and will work primarily to support public relations functions for the company. The Associate will also provide support to government relations activities as necessary. You will interface with Starry’s senior leadership team and work with teams across all company functions including engineering, marketing, sales, product, legal and operations. We’re looking for someone with solid news judgment, strong writing skills and a passion for storytelling and working in a dynamic, fast-paced start-up environment. This position would be based in New York and require some travel to Boston and other locations, up to 20% of the time. 

What you'll do:

  • Collaborate as part of a team supporting media relations and corporate communications
  • Draft blog posts, press releases, media advisories, op-eds and other supporting media materials as necessary
  • Manage media lists and tracking of contacts with media and manage media monitoring and tracking
  • Help brainstorm ideas and strategies for media coverage in Starry’s markets; help brainstorm social media content
  • Track relevant industry developments and other news relevant to Starry and its business


  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Business, or a related discipline
  • 2-3 years media relations experience, either in-house or at an agency
  • Excellent communication skills, and the ability to distill complex internet jargon into engaging content
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong writing and research abilities and presentation skills
  • Strategic mindset, with the ability to see how short term initiatives fit into a larger plan
  • Writing samples will be requested

Bonus Points:

  • Experience in government relations, political campaigns, community organizing or policy advocacy related to our industry (Telecom/Internet/Tech)
  • Experience as a working journalist
