Who we’re looking for:

The Director of Procurement and Sourcing will drive the development of commodity strategies for electronics, mechanical parts, wiring harnesses and printed circuit boards.  Working in alignment with various stakeholders, the position will provide direction for the optimum sourcing of assigned commodities, including supplier identification & selection, support of early supplier involvement during initial product development phases, supplier qualification, and execution of on-going cost reduction initiatives across the supply base. This position is primarily focused on managing the execution of the supply plan in support of the business and operations plan, ensuring that suppliers meet on-time delivery, quality, service, and cost targets.

What you’ll do:

  • Responsible for the complete supply base management life cycle for assigned commodities to optimize cost, quality, delivery, innovation, and service. 
  • Lead sourcing initiatives and supplier selection process including bid evaluations, supplier evaluations, and negotiation strategy.
  • Manage a cross-functional team through the strategic sourcing, cost savings, and risk management processes to build and enhance supplier relationships in support of business objectives.
  • Direct the development and negotiation of supply agreements with suppliers encompassing key program requirements, functional objectives, and adherence to established cost targets and terms.
  • Create and implement best practice procurement vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures to aid and improve business performance.
  • Manage the supply chain plan for direct materials across the product life cycle, including next generation roll out, new product introduction, design performance improvements, and components shortages.
  • Track and resolve E&O exposure through in-depth data analytics, both at Starry’s own production facilities and at its CMs
  • Build, maintain cost roadmaps and identify actions to further reduce and optimize costs through negotiations, resourcing, redesign and volume allocations.
  • Review production demand plan versus NPI constraints; part shortages; engineering roadmaps; board designs maturity and yield data and ensure ability to execute against business demand.
  • Excel at integrating data from inside sources (Starry ERP) and external sources (CM ERP, online marketplaces) into coherent analytics to support fact-based decision making.
  • Participate in cross functional team meetings, including Quality, Engineering, Project Management and Manufacturing on obsolescence mitigation, safe ramp up/down planning, step-by-step validation of the design from fabs to PCBAs, from prototype to mass production stages.
  • Support cross functional product development teams through all phases of Product Development. Plan, buy and monitor materials to support engineering projects and secure pipeline to support production at product release
  • Track delivery status for all open purchase orders and convey information to stakeholders. Proactively follow-up with suppliers and communicate status. Expedite orders as required.
  • Interface with Engineering, R&D, Operations, Planning, and Program Management to assess current and future sourcing requirements, and to influence technical design decisions on source of supply.
  • Responsible for developing the appropriate organizational structure, resource plans and culture to support the business objectives and customer deliverables
  • Provide leadership, coordination, and coaching to the team, ensuring they are trained thus enabling them to achieve the operational and financial metrics within their areas of responsibility and succeed in their roles
  • Maintain expertise/knowledge of the electronics industry market trends including rigorous analysis of market drivers, cost structures, technical improvements, and competitive landscape.
  • Understand and lead supplier selection/transitions and identify/develop/grow preferred supply base to support Commodity Strategy


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, Business, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience is required
  • 5-10 years of technical procurement experience with printed circuit board assemblies, electronic components, and PCBs. RF experience is a plus.
  • Understanding of key manufacturing processes supporting the commodity: PCB, PCBA, EE Components, Electronics Contract Manufacturing (EMS). Product launch experience from design to production.
  • Must have hands-on experience working with an ERP System; NetSuite user experience preferred
  • Expert level skills within Microsoft Excel required (VLOOKUP, if statements, pivot tables, ability to data mine and compare large data sets and research issues)
